Salesforce Acquires Slack for $27.7B (2020.12)

Salesforce, a global leader of CRM software, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Slack, a chat software developer, at an enterprise value of $27.7B through a combination of stocks and cash. The purchase marks one of the largest recent transactions with in the software industry with the two largest being IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat at $34B in 2018 and Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn at $27B in 2016. Acquisition of Slack’s business chat service with over 130,000 paid customers will allow Salesforce to strengthen its competition against Microsoft’s chat and video service and create new areas of growth.
